Vericours functioned
as an outsourced corporate development resource to help the senior
management team of a successful engineering firm define, evaluate
and develop several new business initiatives.
Our
client, one of EDN's list of the top 100 design and civil engineering
firms, has grown steadily with strong profitability
through a three-year down cycle in their market. However, with
business conditions improving and several potential new business
opportunities emerging, the firm needed to reassess
its priorities and clearly focus its energies to realize maximum
value from its market position.
Using
a series of client teams, we helped the company identify a range
of new business initiatives, understand market
potential and competitive threats, consider alternative approaches,
clarify their strategies and develop detailed action plans. This
resulted in the creation of a major new practice
area, increased efforts to grow a second promising practice, and
the decision to spin off a third business unit into a joint venture
with another firm. In addition, we led a series
of workshops focused on clarifying the most important long term
trends in the business, and helped identify and evaluate potential
opportunities to expand the firm's market presence and accelerate
growth via geographically targeted acquisitions.
